$5 Spring Community Days

This spring through the generous support of the Jack Baldwin Memorial Outdoor Education Fund of the Gorge Community Foundation. , we’re offering 2 Saturdays that approximate a “Day in the Life of Cascade Mountain School.” Each outing includes a mixture of outdoor adventure and environmental science. The Saturdays are only $5/per person and are meant for middle and high school students accompanied by their parents, teachers, and/or mentors.

Saturday, May 10: Trout Lake Farm to Table Bike Day In this all-day adventure, middle and high school students along with their parents, teachers, and/or mentors are invited to spend a day biking through the beautiful agricultural valley of Trout Lake, Washington while learning about sustainable agriculture and food production. Participants will meet local farmers at their farms to learn and to get their hands dirty helping out. We will end the day by making a delicious local meal. If the weather is nice, we’ll bike between our farm stops on safe backroads. No experience necessary, but participants do need to feel comfortable riding a bicycle. Participants will need to provide their own transportation to and from Trout Lake, Washington. Participants should bring their own bikes (in good working order). Bikes are available to borrow for the day if needed. Lunch will be provided. 9 am to 3 pm.

Saturday, May 17: Klickitat River Salmon and Rafting In this all-day adventure middle and high school students along with their parents, teachers, and/or mentors are invited to spend a day rafting the Klickitat River while learning about salmon biology, habitat, and restoration efforts. Participants will join fish biologists, watershed planners, and experienced white water guides from Yakama Nation Fisheries and Cascadia Kayak School for a wet and adventurous day on the Klickitat River. No experience necessary. No additional supplies are needed. Participants will be required to sign a liability release waiver for the rafting portion of the trip. Participants will need to bring swimsuit, sun hat, sun shirt, sunglasses, closed-toed shoes that can get wet, and a positive attitude. More specific details will be provided before the class. Lunch will be provided. 9 am to 4 pm.
