Mt. Hood Mountain to Mouth Camp July 20-31

In this 12-day summer science course, students will conduct meaningful ecological research while backpacking and camping on Mt. Hood and through the Hood River Valley. As we move from the glaciers on Mt. Hood along the Hood River to the mighty Columbia, students will practice field science skills and collaborate with local scientists on ongoing ecological studies. Students should expect a rigorous academic program coupled with relaxation and outdoor recreation. Topics covered include: mountain and forest ecology, hydrology, fisheries, food systems, glaciology, and climate change. This course includes a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip on Mt. Hood, including an exploration of Eliot Glacier, and a celebratory white water rafting trip down the White Salmon River!

Students who participate fully and complete course requirements to a satisfactory level can receive four units of college credit through the Columbia Gorge Community College. 20 hours of service available.
