History

Cascade Mountain School launched in 2011 as a pilot program with a group of students from Catlin Gabel School. In 2012, four week-long summer ecology trips attracted students from all over west coast from both public and private schools. Now in 2015, CMS offers high school academic credit for three courses: Sustainable Agriculture, Mt. Hood Field Ecology, and Mt. Adams Field Ecology through the Trout Lake School District in Trout Lake, WA. College credit and service credit is also available.

CMS believes in emulating the best educational programs in the country and learning from others’ experiences. Therefore, CMS conducted a feasibility study in 2011 to investigate outstanding programs, including stories of success and to pinpoint areas of caution. CMS was able to learn many valuable lessons from programs underway across the world.

MBA students from Portland State University recently completed a financial viability study for CMS to better understand the financial feasibility of a full academic program.

Cascade Mountain School will launch its inaugural Semester School during the fall of 2016!
