Ever wonder where the food on your table comes from? Roll up your sleeves and join us for a unique, hands-on experience on Cascade Mountain School’s organic farm campus in Trout Lake, WA. You’ll learn from educated instructors about local food economies and systems, cooking and nutrition, and watershed science, all on-site at their beautiful indoor/outdoor kitchen and classroom facility. Students will camp overnight in tents at Broadfork Farm, which provides a perfect opportunity to experience morning farm chores, farm and food lessons, and animal husbandry (goats, pigs, chickens). You’ll learn the basics from your individual “farmer hosts,” visit neighboring organic egg / dairy / vegetable farms, and engage in discussions about interconnectedness, sustainability, and farming methods. By the end of your stay in this idyllic setting, you’ll return home with a better understanding of your food and how you can affect change in your community.
Transportation to and from CMS provided. Students will depart from the FAIS (French American International School) campus Sunday morning and return to campus for pick-up Wednesday evening by 5pm. Price includes food, lodging, and transportation expenses.
